What does a SRNA/CNA do?

An SRNA assists with care for patients’ day-to-day needs or activities of daily living. Job expectations may differ depending on the facility but general responsibilities can include:

  • Turning or repositioning patients

  • Taking patients’ vital signs including blood pressure and temperature

  • Dental/denture are

  • Answering patient call lights

  • Hair and nail care; hygiene and grooming

  • Documenting patients’ health issues and report to nurses

  • Feeding patients, measuring and recording their food and liquid intake

  • Cleaning rooms and bed linens

  • Emptying bedpans, colostomy bags and urinals; measuring output

  • Post-mortem care

Who can take this SRNA/CNA class?

This class is open to individuals age 17 years or older. Applicants must have a high school diploma, GED or the ability to read and comprehend at a 7th grade level for reading and math(an assessment will be given without proof of high school diploma or GED). Applicants must pass a background check (pursuant to KRS 216.789 No persons with a felony conviction related to theft; abuse or sale of illegal drugs; abuse, neglect, or exploitation of an adult; or a sexual crime. will be allowed to enroll in this NATCEP course.) You are prohibited from taking this course if your name (verified by social security number) is listed on the Nurse Aide Abuse Registry or the Kentucky Adult Caregiver Misconduct Registry.  Prospective students must also pass a TB assessment and a 2-step TB skin or blood test. Students must have the ability to perform the duties of a nurse aide (bending, twisting, standing, lifting, etc.).

How long does it take to complete the class?

  • CLASSROOM FORMAT: This classroom option is a 3-week, 75-hour course. It consists of 59 hours (2 weeks) of classroom curriculum training with hand-on skills practice in our simulation lab. During the 3rd week, students will complete a 2-day (16 hour) clinical rotation at a local clinical site.

What is the total cost of taking the class?

CLASSROOM COURSE

The total cost payable to HCTI is $900 This includes:

  • Application and registration fee – $150, this fee is non-refundable and is due at the time the application is submitted!

  • Tuition/Study Binder – $750

** Textbook – $75 (REQUIRED; not included) HCTI offers Textbook Rentals - $25 (available as supplies last; must be returned prior to being scheduled for the SRNA state exam)

** Liability insurance – $30 (REQUIRED; not included) May be purchased by student separately or through HCTI for $25

** 2-Step PPD/TB Skin test - negative result - from within the past 12 months or less (student must present proof); cost

Unless payment plan arrangements are made with our office, payment in full is required at least 7 days before you may course start date. Check the Tuition Payment Portal for further information on payment plan options.

Additional costs to the student include gray scrub top/pants. Purchase of a stethoscope and a manual blood pressure cuff is also recommended for at-home practice but not required. For students who plan to take the State Exam upon completion of the course, the total cost is $115 and IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE COURSE COST. The test is scheduled through the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS) and is administered at one of the KCTCS campuses. Your test will be scheduled by HCTI upon complete payment of all fees due and return of any loaned property of HCTI. Please note that your government issued id and social security card must name match exactly in order to test. Laminated social security cards are not accepted for the test.

Payment Arrangements Available!

We offer the option for students to make payments toward the total cost of $900 for Nurse Aide Training and Competency course (classroom format). If this option is beneficial to you, please ask us about it or signup during Enrollment. Select the Payment Arrangement option. This is how it works:

  • $150 Deposit/Enrollment Fee is due with Application and is Non-Refundable. This initial payment allows for completion of background checks, release of course materials and access to Elsevier online resources (username and password are assigned). to the student. The Application/Background Check Authorization and the “Statement of Understanding” must be completed with submission of this initial fee.

    Failure to pay the payment plan as required could result in forfeiture of all payments made!

  • If you purchase/rent options from the school, the amount of your Payment Plan will be increased*

    You should go to the “Payment Portal” page to make your plan payments or you may pay them directly from the invoice emailed to you. See the Refund Policy below for information pertaining to refunds.

What is your refund policy?

Nurse Aide Training Program: The $150 Depost/Application fee is non-refundable. Once the student receives course materials, all payments are then non-refundable. Any student on a Payment Plan must complete the payment arrangement as required and make all payments on time. Failure to make a payment on a Payment Arrangement could result in forfeiture of all fees paid.  

Refund Policy

Refunds (less the $150.00 registration fee) will be available up to 7 days prior to the first day of class in which the student is enrolled. After that date (7 days prior to the first day of class), there will be no refunds. Students who are dismissed due to improper conduct, excessive absences or who fail to achieve competency are not entitled to any refunds. Students who do not attend the minimum required number of hours due to absences or tardiness are not entitled to any refunds. Students who drop the class for personal reasons are not entitled to any refunds. Sometimes students have significant life events that make them unable to complete the NATCEP(Nurse Aide Training Program) course. Students providing documentation of a personal health issue or death in the immediate family within two weeks may be eligible for a refund or transfer into another class (if class space permits in the future). Students who do not complete the class due to nonpayment are not entitled to any refunds. Any student who fails the background check or drug screen is eligible to be refunded any tuition paid (less the $150.00 registration fee) if all supplies issued to the student are returned in “new” condition. The cost of any supplies not returned in “new” condition will be deducted from tuition paid and student will be issued a refund for the difference. Health Careers Training Institute, LLC reserves the right to cancel any class due to low enrollment and refund all funds paid by the student. All valid refunds will be issued within 14 days of refund request date.

When and where is TB testing done?

You must present the results of a negative TWO-STEP Tuberculin PPD skin test or blood test. You must have these completed in order begin the class. The TB Risk Assessment is done by the HCTI instructor at no cost to students. The PPD/TB skin test must be completed and read by a medical provider outside of HCTI at the student’s cost.

The TWO-STEP Tuberculin PPD skin test takes a minimum of 12 days to complete. If you are unable to get the TB skin test, have had a positive reaction to a TB skin test, have had TB in the past, or been vaccinated for TB you may need a blood test or chest x-ray to meet this requirement.

No student will be allowed into a clinical facility site without a negative TWO-STEP TB PPD skin test or blood test or a negative chest X-ray performed within the last 5 years.

Is my Kentucky SRNA/CNA certification recognized by other states?

Each state has different regulations regarding nurse aide licenses.  If you plan to work in a state other than Kentucky, you need to check that state’s reciprocity policy.

How do I get a complaint resolved?

In the event of a misunderstanding or of unfulfilled expectations, please contact the Program Coordinator for a prompt resolution. If you that feel that HCTI has violated Kentucky statutes or regulations, you may send a written complaint to the Kentucky Commission for Proprietary Education. 

To file a complaint with the Kentucky Commission on Proprietary Education, each personal filing must submit a completed “Form to File a Complaint” (PE-24) to the Kentucky Commission on Proprietary Education by mail to Capital Plaza Tower, Room 302, 500 Mero Street, Frankfort, KY 40601.  This form can be found on the website at www.kcpe.ky.gov.
